The Moon in Ardra

The Moon

Today is the 22nd lunar day in the waning phase in the Vedic calendar and astrological chart. This is  Krishna Saptami. The deity presiding over the day is Surya (the Sun). It is an auspicious day for important events such as marriage, creative endeavors and supports friendship, loyalty, power and  leadership.

Moon (Chandra- OM AIM Chandraya Namasha-pearl, opal) is in the rashi (heap of stars or sign), Gemini, whose planetary ruler is Mercury (OM AIM BUM Buddhaya Namaha-emerald or peridot).

The Moon is specifically situated in a constellation of stars called Ardra, the arduous. Ardra is ruled by the north node of the Moon, Rahu, the trickster, rebel, avant garde, passionate, driven one, who inspires us to follow our dreams.

The deity of Ardra is Shiva/Rudra, the storm god. The Moon is a deeper emotional nature and psyche, and his presence here connotes struggle, overcoming obstacles, endurance and purification through trials. It is an intense naskhatra, perhaps the most intense and yet it holds the energy of success through perseverance and the ultimate victory of forging a diamond through pressure from coal. The symbol is the tear drop of release.

Today is a day for contemplating a sense of indecision, angst or pressure you have been under and allow an emotional release, which will bring clarity purification, success and peace.

The fact that is is a Sunday means that a good mantra for today would be the Gayatri mantra or the Surya mantra, as well as a mantra to Rahu and Lord Shiva.

It is auspicious to repeat a mantra with a japa mala or string of 108 beads. 108 is the number of the Goddess, equaling 9, the number of completion.

In addition Jupiter (Guru- OM GLAUM Gurave Namaha-topaz, citrine), the most benefit of all the planets is with the Moon in Gemini and he sits in the most auspicious nakshatra Punarvasu, which means “again the light”. This energy ensures that whatever process or struggle you are going through, is one that will bring you into more light, truth and peace in your life.

Punarvasu is also ruled by Jupiter, magnifying this supportive, wise energy and indicates the power to regain what was lost. It also carries the energy of whatever you give out will return to you. The deity is Aditi, the mother of creation and all the Gods.

Rest assured that the dawn is returning to us after the storm.

Much Love,
