Saturn And Rahu Dance Together

Today Saturn and Rahu are conjunct, meaning they join at the same degree. In this case they are together in Pisces, the natural 12th sign of the zodiac, meaning spiritual mastery (the fish, the symbol of Christ consciousness). The 12th position also indicates freedom, the culmination of a soul’s journey, the deep subconscious, the past, foreigners and travel. Pisces is a water sign, dispersing the ocean of consciousness and light.

Saturn and Rahu are both dry and airy energies and considered malefic in Vedic astrology. This means they represent the challenges and karmic difficulties and lessons of life, though how they impact each one of us personally has to do with the evolutionary stage of our soul and how the planets are configured in the sky when we were birthed into this earthy realm.

Generally speaking Saturn is considered heavy and slow. He forces us to learn our lessons and pay our karmic dues. He denies immediate gratification, but rather encourages and supports those who apply steady discipline and effort toward a goal that is beneficial for all. Saturn is the ultimate servant and promotes, sacrifice. For these he gives great reward in the end. He also represents structure, stability, confinement and restriction.

Rahu, on the other hand is expansive and explosive. He is passionate and ambitious and reaches for a goal that is often illusive. For this reason he is called the great trickster. Rahu embodies what we long for and go after, often to be disappointed when we attain what we sought. He is smokey and confusing. Rahu also represents futuristic trends, science fiction, advanced technologies, media and the whole world of image and illusion referred to as Maya in Vedic cosmology. Maya is that which appears to be real but is actually transient.

Both Rahu, the north node of the Moon, and Saturn are together in a star constellation or Nakshatra called Purva Badrapada, the saint who stands on one leg or the man with two faces.. This Nakshtra and the sign of Pisces are ruled by Jupiter, the most benevolent planet known as Guru. Purva Badrapada is the aesthetic, the renunciate who comes into this life with previous life merit for a great spiritual sacrifice in a past life. The two faced aspect in its lower expression can indicate a Jekyll and Hyde personality, or it can depict one who has deep inner awareness, but presents a superficial image to the world. They are recluses, but when called to spread and important message can step into the limelight and be effective inspiration.

When two energies such as Saturn and Rahu are conjunct, we weave them together and determine how they are further colored by the sign and Nakshatra, as well as the planets that rule them.

My read on this is that Rahu urges the seeking of new ways to support the world with advanced technologies that can have great spiritual impact under the guidance of Jupiter, but that Saturn demands a deep inner cleansing of psyche individually and collectively before moving forward. He says,” not so fast. Time to face the shadow issues, resolve them, forgive them and release them, before moving forward.” Pisces is the sign of collective consciousness. We are all being asked to slow down now and feel what needs to be let go. If you feel depressed and or conflicted today, be patient and practice stillness and inner listening. There is something to be understood.

Purify. Apply wisdom. Avoid rash actions.
